HOUSTON, TX – A woman died from injuries sustained in a major crash on September 12, the Houston Police Department reports.
51-year-old Crisanta Retana was standing next to the front passenger door of a white Ford F-150 when both she and the vehicle were hit by a black Chevrolet suburban near 4300 North Freeway.
Retana was rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident. She was declared dead by attending physicians on Sunday, December 27.
The 29-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Suburban said he thought Retana was going to step into the roadway. To avoid hitting her, he veered his vehicle to the left but then drove onto the curb and hit Retana and the parked car.
He was determined not to be intoxicated and was released by authorities after the crash. An investigation into the accident remains open.
