Update: Fatal Bellfort Ave. crash occurred when racing trucks fell into bayou

HOUSTON, TX – One man was killed and another was injured in southeast Houston after their pickup trucks fell into a bayou during a possible drunken street race on Christmas morning.

According to ABC 13 Houston, the accident occurred near Hobby Airport, in the 7900 block of Bellfort Avenue, as the 24-year-old driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado and the 29-year-old driver of a white GMC Sierra were racing each other.
The driver of the GMC lost control of the vehicle, causing him to swerve between lanes and collide with the other pickup truck. Both pickup trucks then fell into the bayou nearby.
The driver of the Silverado was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second driver was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and is facing potential charges of intoxication manslaughter.
Neither of the drivers was immediately identified.
