On Monday, January 28, 2019, a man from Sunland Park was killed after a traffic accident that occurred on Interstate 10.
According to the police investigation, Byron Wade Cross, 46, had stopped to help a 2001 Volkswagen driven by Garcia Talamantes, 18, after it had stalled out in the middle of the road on Interstate 10, near mile post 159. The Volkswagen was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, and then Daniel A. Terrazas, 72, swerved his 2002 Lincoln to avoid the collision but instead hit Cross who was standing on the right shoulder.
Cross was brought to University Medical Center in El Paso, but unfortunately, he died from his injuries.
Talamantes was given a traffic ticket for “stop standing, parked on the roadway,” while Terrazas was given tickets for an expired drivers license, no insurance, and careless driving. In addition to that, he was also arrested for an unrelated warrant out of Dona Ana County.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of Byron Wade Cross, but it is even more unfortunate to realize that he is not the first victim whose life is taken away by a car accident. Vehicular accidents like this happen quite often nowadays. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents happen almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, a car accident occurs that results in death. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and 90 people dying in car accidents every day in the U.S. alone.
If you are a victim of a car accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there to help you, but more than that, car accident lawyers are always willing to help you in protecting your rights and getting you the justice that you deserve.
