2 people killed in fiery collision with Amtrak train in East Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A fiery crash between a car and an Amtrak passenger train in East Houston led to the death of a man and a woman and the possible injury of another person last night.
According to KHOU, the collision happened at a railroad crossing near Beaumont Highway and Van Hut Lane at around 9 p.m.
Railroad arms were down and lights and sound were activated near the crossing when a driver went around the arms. The car was then hit by an approaching Amtrak passenger train.
Two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were ejected during the crash and the car caught fire.
The people in the car were pronounced dead after the collision.
Another person aboard the train may also have been hurt during the crash.
There were 83 passengers and 11 crew riding on the train when the collision happened.
The crash remains under investigation.
