1 dead, 1 hospitalized after 5-vehicle crash following police pursuit

HOUSTON, TX – One person was killed and another was hospitalized as a result of a multi-vehicle collision that followed a police pursuit in northwest Houston last night, according to KTRK.
The incident began at around 6:10 p.m. after a police officer attempted to pull over a driver for reckless driving, and the driver then fled. A high-speed chase ensued.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Damian West, then reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of Hempstead Road and West Little York Road. This led to a chain-reaction crash between five vehicles.
One person was pronounced dead after the collision.
A female victim was taken to the hospital for the treatment of critical injuries.
West was reportedly out on a $100 bond from a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon in Harris County. Also on his record are drug possession charges from Wharton County and a charge of theft from an ATM from Fort Bend County.
He is facing a charge of murder and aggravated assault in connection with the crash.
