Just before 7:00 a.m., DPS troopers responded to SS 502 after they received a dispatch call reporting a three-vehicle accident, just south of Farm to Market Road 1844. According to the report, a 2015 Hyundai Sonota was heading south on the road when a 2009 Ford Fusion behind went out of control and rear-ended the Hyundai. The Ford landed on its side and then hit a 2020 Kia Sorenta that was heading north in the center lane. Police said the Kia was attempting to make a turn towards FM 1884.
The driver of the Ford, identified only as a 36-year-old man from Ore City, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of Kia was rushed to Longview Regional Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Fortunately, the Hyundai driver was not hurt.
An investigation is underway.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the deceased victim. We are also hoping and praying for a fast recovery of the injured parties.
Car collisions are extremely prevalent in Texas. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, one person gets injured in approximately two minutes. Unfortunately, despite the government’s aggressive efforts to educate drivers about safety, the cases of speeding, driving under the influence, and negligence are still on the rise. In fact, most of the common causes of accidents in the state are due to the driver’s lack of awareness and precaution.
Knowing the statistics helps us to be more aware of how our choices can affect other people’s lives. For instance, driving while under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs dramatically increases your risk of being involved in a crash by roughly 16% and 24%, respectively. While these cases are extremely dangerous, these can be prevented by making the right decisions. So before hitting the road, know that car accidents leave scars and trauma that can be devastating for the victims. For this reason, it is important that you take all the necessary precautions to avoid it.
