Denton – Bicyclist Struck and Killed by a Train on Brinker Road ID’d

The Denton Police Department has identified the bicycle rider who got struck by a train on Brinker Road.
The fatality was named as Joseph Whelen, 53. He is a resident of Corinth.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Whelen was riding his bicycle on the 2300 block of Brinker Road when he was hit by a passing train. the impact of the collision left the victim with serious injuries. He was transported to Medical City Denton where he received medical treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased a few moments later.
No other injuries were reported.
Local investigators and emergency crews were requested at the scene to assist in the clearing. Investigators are still determining the circumstances surrounding the incident. It’s not clear if there will be charges to be filed against the operator of the train.
